Foreign residents in Panama now have a new digital way to access their immigration identification.
Panama’s National Immigration Service (Servicio Nacional de Migración) has introduced a digital immigration card, allowing eligible foreign residents to display their carné migratorio directly from a smartphone, tablet, or computer through the Migración en Línea platform.
The new option became available in September 2026 and is designed to make immigration identification more accessible while allowing the validity of the credential to be verified digitally.
What Is the Digital Immigration Card?
The digital card is an electronic version of the immigration credential associated with a foreign resident’s immigration status in Panama.
It includes a QR code that can be used to verify the information displayed on the credential, providing an additional digital verification method.
For foreign residents, this means their immigration credential can now be accessed online without relying exclusively on the physical card for convenient digital access.
How to Access Your Digital Card
Foreign residents can check their digital immigration card through Panama’s Migración en Línea platform.
After logging into your account:
- Go to Solicitudes
- Select Carné Digital
- Choose Carné Migratorio
- Your digital immigration credential should appear on screen if available for your record.
The card can then be displayed from your phone, tablet, or computer when needed.
Can You Save It to Your Phone?
For now, there is an important limitation.
The digital immigration card cannot currently be downloaded directly from the platform. Residents need to log into Migración en Línea whenever they want to display it.
Because the system and its acceptance may continue to evolve, residents should also keep their physical immigration documentation available when required, particularly for procedures where an institution specifically requests the original physical credential.
What If You See an Alert?
Some residents may see an alert when attempting to access their digital credential.
According to information provided by Panama’s immigration authorities, this may indicate that the person’s biometric information needs to be updated.
In that situation, the resident must visit the main office of the National Immigration Service to complete the biometric update.
The biometric update is free of charge.

For expats and other foreign residents living in Panama, the digital card adds a convenient way to access immigration identification without having to depend solely on a physical document for everyday verification.
It is also part of Panama’s broader move toward digitizing government procedures and making frequently used documents and services more accessible online.
